Volcano Etna

Mount Etna, located on the eastern coast of Sicily, is the highest active volcano in Europe, reaching over 3,400 meters. Its volcanic activity is continuous, marked by frequent explosive and effusive eruptions that produce lava flows and occasional ash explosions. These eruptions are fueled by a complex system of magma chambers and faults running through Etna, making it one of the most studied volcanoes in the world. At the base of the volcano, about one million people live across numerous towns, including Catania and other Etnean municipalities.

Despite the risks associated with eruptions, the local population has coexisted with the volcano for centuries, benefiting from its fertile lands for agriculture and tourism.
